Governance at Sherwood Academy

The Governance of the Sherwood Academy is embedded within the Governing Body of the The Carlton Academy and provides strategic direction for Sherwood Academy and helps drive improvements in standards, by:

  • Setting targets
  • Setting policies to achieve the targets
  • Monitoring results

Much of the work is carried out directly during Governors' meetings.

In addition, work concerned with the Academy's finances, staffing and premises is conducted by the Governors. Specific Governors have a lead role in the areas of Safeguarding, Curriculum, Teaching & Learning and Data Usage.

Each year a Chair and Vice Chair of the Local Governing Body is elected. They are supported in their work by a Clerk to the Governors who advises on points of procedure and law and minutes meetings. We represent all with an interest in education:

  •  Parent Governors elected by parents;
  •  Staff Governors elected by staff; and
  •  Co-opted Governors appointed by the governing body.

The current Chair of Governors is Mr Steve Mathers- he can be contacted via school - please contact the Administration team if you wish to contact the Chair of Governors.
